In Grand Island at Fonner Park, there is the Nebraska Law Enforcement Memorial. It honors 130 officers who have fallen in the line of duty. Among those fallen is my grandfather, Charles Henning. He was shot on April 24, 1968 causing a stroke. Ten years later, he died of complications related to the stroke. I have never met anyone who had a bad word to say about him.
